Yonathon Daza is a name that Colorado Rockies fans are becoming more and more familiar with. Last season in the California League, Daza was named a post-season All-Star after hitting .341 for the Lancaster JetHawks. He was also named organizational All-Star, not just for his spectacular play at the plate, but also for his leadership abilities that led the JetHawks to the Cal League Championships.

Since last season, Daza has not taken a break from baseball and the results are paying off. In 2017, he got an opportunity to showcase his talents in the Arizona Fall League. He performed well in the Fall League and had an even better showing in Major League Spring Training. In 16 game appearances, Yonathon was 8-21 at the plate with two doubles, a triple and two stolen bases. His K/BBs were identical at 1:1.

This season Daza will be playing for the Hartford Yard Goats along with other organizational top prospects such as Brendan Rodgers, Sam Hilliard, Brian Mundell, Peter Lambert and Garrett Hampson. If past performance is any indication of future success, the Yard Goats should have a good chance at winning the Eastern League this year. Aside from the guys mentioned above, Jesus Tinoco, Chris Rabago, Wes Rogers and Mylz Jones are some other talented players to keep eyes on.

You can expect more of the same results from Yonathon Daza in AA this season. Hartford is a tougher hitting environment than Lancaster, though that shouldn’t affect Daza all that much. The guy can flat out hit! You can expect him to bat over .300 again over the course of the season, with a good chance of capturing the Eastern League batting title like he did in California.
